About my artwork

My artwork is figurative and depicts the human figure in an existentialist, sometimes romanticized, grotesque or absurd way. The media I use to express my ideas with are drawing, sculpture, printmaking, painting, video, writing and theatre. Inspired by Bertolt Brecht’s concepts of ‘epic theatre’ and ‘distancing effect’ it is my aim to make the viewers of my art feel slightly repelled so that they will not loose themselves in the artwork but preferably remain consciously critical observers. Recently my artwork has focused on depicting Beckettian situations that critically reflect upon the absurdity of the human condition. Or on depicting people who flee into imaginary illusions of nature and reality in attempts to escape confronting the world as it is.
