About my artwork
Tilde Lerche Engstrøm is a figurative artist who depicts the human figure in an existentialist, sometimes romanticized, grotesque or absurd way. She expresses her ideas through drawing, sculpture, printmaking, painting, video, writing and theatre. Inspired by Bertolt Brecht’s concepts of ‘epic theatre’ and ‘distancing effect’ it is her aim to make the viewers of her art feel distanced and become consciously critical observers. Recently her artwork has focused on Beckettian situations that critically reflect upon the absurdity of the human condition, or on depicting people who flee into imaginary illusions of nature and reality in attempts to escape confronting the world as it is.
